The World Baseball Hall of Fame today is honored to announce the inaugural winner of WBHF 2015 International Player of the Year Award
José Bautista of the Toronto Blue Jays has been selected the inaugural winner of WBHF 2015 International Player of the Year Award, as chosen by the Selection Committee. The WBHF is also proud to announce that the Alexander Cartwright Award For Builders of the Game goes to Marvin Miller, the man who led the MLB Players Association from 1965- 1982. Bautista, a native of the Dominican Republic, was part of the 2015 Blue Jays’ Murderers Row (with Josh Donaldson and Edwin Encarnacion) that led Toronto to the American League Championship Series. His iconic three-run home run against Texas in Game 5 off the AL Divisional Series symbolized his clutch hitting all season. He blasted 40 home runs with 110 RBIs and 110 walks to lead Toronto to the best offence in the majors. Despite missing time with injury, he produced a .377 on-base percentage, a .536 slugging percentage and a .913 OPS for the Blue Jays.
Other finalists were Venezuela’s Miguel Cabrera of the Detroit Tigers, Canadian Joey Votto of the Cincinnati Reds and Dominican Republic David Ortiz of the Boston Red Sox.
