Alexander Cartwright Award For Builders of the Game award winner announced

The World Baseball Hall of Fame today is honored to announce the winner of the first Alexander Cartwright Award For Builders of the Game award. And the award goes to:

Marvin Miller

In 1992, Red Barber said, "Marvin Miller, along with Babe Ruth and Jackie Robinson, is one of the two or three most important men in baseball history.” Miller was a controversial figure in his time who led the MLPA through a number of labour stoppages. But his contributions to free agency, player security and the growth of the sport make him a seminal figure in baseball’s history. His influence spilled over into there other major sports, creating a new business relationship between players and owners.
